Collage landscape with Gisela Carroll
Course Description and Supply List
Class description
In this class you will learn how to make a collaged landscape using a few different fusible stabilizers. There will be a brief overview of colour and value. The landscape will be created using your own photograph.
Suitable Photographs
Choose a landscape photograph that does not have too much detail.
If you have several to choose from and you are unsure of which one to use it may be helpful to send me an email with the images and I will advise which one may be most suitable for this process. My email is sonic17@telus.net .
The landscape can be used as a background and then added to, and/or embellished
Supply List
- You will need 2 photographs of your landscape (one in colour, and one in black and white). They should be at least 8 x 10
- You can, if you wish have a line drawing of your landscape blown up to the size of your quilt. You can get your line drawing printed at “B to B” copy in Penticton or you can do it using a free website called “blockposter.com”. (I personally have never used the website but I know a number of art quilters do use it. (This process is optional)
- Backing fabric larger than your completed landscape
- Batting the same size as your backing fabric
- You will need these on your first day as we build the quilt on the table using the backing and batting as the base.
- Please come with your backing and batting glued together using ODIF 505 Temporary Fabric Adhesive Spray (or any other fusible)
- Old blanket underneath your quilt as you will be ironing on the table
- 3 pairs of scissors (paper, fabric, embroidery)
- Some pins (preferably small ones)
- Pencil
- Masking tape (to tape your work to the table)
- Fabric scraps suitable for your landscape. (It is important to have lots of fabric choices. They do not need to be only batiks.
- I will be bringing scraps as well
- Fusible stabilizers. We will be discussing 3 of them but for this class we will be using Steam-a-seam lite . (Pellon 805, Steam-a-seam lite, and misty fuse). I will bring some steam-a-seam lite for purchase at $18.00 metre.
- Iron (If you have a cordless iron please bring it ).
- Rotary cutter and mat
- I will provide turban cotton to each of you
- Ruler
- Parchment Paper used for ironing
- Small bucket or paper bag for garbage
- Any other favorite items that you would usually use on a retreat or a course.
- Optional, if you have a Teflon sheet please bring it. I can show you how to use it for any additional objects to add as a top layer.
Aim to make your piece approx.. 18 x 24 inches. You will probably not have enough time to do a piece larger than that. Also, make sure that it is not too small as it will be harder to do.
Please DO NOT bring your sewing machine
