Sharing the memories and art, Sally Franks holds a painting done by her mother,during the weekend fundraiser, Agnes Sutherland “For the Sound of Colour”. Sales yielded $2,450 in sales of art, home baking and canned items bringing the total in the memorial fund to over $7,500. A baby grand piano is in the sights of the organizers who look forward to its debut in the lobby of the Frank Venables Theatre sometime next year.

The Fall Art Show and Sale (FASS) committee is looking for some gently used but still classy items for the silent auction table at this event October 5-6. The silent auction portion of the show and sale is vital for running the event in the black. It also attracts visitors to the event — and repeat visitors, and visitors who linger at that!
To start you thinking, how about some of these suggestions: a glossy coffee table book, a basket of preserves, attractive candle holders, collectibles, a set of kitchen utensils, table linens, a pretty vase, decorative items for the living room, or a gift you received but have never found a use for. Collectibles can range from porcelain figurines to retro toys to tools from “pioneer“ days.
For businesses interested in donating, gift certificates are a great idea that bring people back to your door.
Please make sure your items are clean, show few if any signs of wear, and are in working order. We cannot accept large items too heavy for one person to lift. Remember, most items will need to sit on a table for display.

At a later date, a second-hand dishwasher (also courtesy of Colleen Polychroniou) and a new fridge will be installed. The kitchen will also get a fresh coat of paint to complement the new look.

Spring is finally here and we are ready to start growing at the new home of the Oliver Community Garden (the Quail’s Nest Arts Centre). The sheds, beds, barrels and bins have been delivered but now we need your help. We need as many strong, able bodies as we can get to help us move everything into position. Please come and help and bring your friends on…

We will also still looking for donations of start up materials such as dirt and compost so if you can help us out in that way it will be greatly appreciated!
Garden beds are still available so don’t forget to reserve your garden box for the 2011 growing season by calling or emailing me. We’re setting up fewer boxes this year so space is limited!
