First concert approaches … Got your tickets?

November is often a grey month in the Okanagan, a time between the beauty of Fall and the snows of winter. It is a time to be intentional about lifting the spirits. The South Okanagan Concert Society has something that might just do the trick. On Friday, November 2nd the stunning lyric soprano, Tracy Fehr, will be performing at 7:30 pm in our interim venue, the Oliver Alliance Church. Tracy, accompanied by pianist, Dennis Nordlund, offers a programme that is filled with variety. Maybe an aria from Puccini’s “Tosca” appeals? What about some Afro-American spirituals? Favourite showtunes like ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and ‘Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” might be the thing to warm your heart. Don’t be surprised if that warmed heart is racing by the time the Dvorak and Rachmaninoff numbers conclude the evening. This concert offers it all.

Flex pass tickets are on sale now at Beyond Bliss in Oliver and at Imperial Office Pro in Osoyoos. A four admission pass costs only $60. The four admissions are entirely flexible and can be used together or in combination. Single admission is $20. Young people 17 and under are welcome to attend the concert free.

A classically trained Lyric Coloratura Soprano, Tracy Fehr holds a Bachelor of Music Vocal Performance from the University of Alberta and an A.R.T.C. in Singing Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. She has performed in venues throughout the world and has combined her considerable talents with a desire to give voice to those less fortunate in developing countries. In 2008, for example, she formed an organization in Tunisia and assisted over 50 single moms with education and skills training so they could support themselves and their babies. In Guatemala she was involved in musical projects with the Casa Esperanza (safe home for abandoned/neglected children). In 2011 she spent several weeks on a Song for Hope tour in North Africa and the UK raising funds and awareness for the work of her livelihood projects.

Accompanist, Dennis Nordlund, is also a many faceted musician. He has a BSc in Zoology as well as the Performers A.R.T.C. from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto! Dennis expresses his passion for music by performing throughout the Okanagan as soloist, accompanist for vocalists, choirs, intrumentalists and theatrical productions. At his Penticton studio he teaches piano, composition, accompanying and music theory . He is a member of a jazz trio and a chamber ensemble.
