Canadian folk icon comes to Oliver

Be sure to get your tickets now for the Garnet Rogers concert at Medici’s Gelateria on Saturday September 15, at 7:30 p.m.  Price: $25

Garnet Rogers has been a fixture on the Canadian music scene since getting his start in the mid-70s in a band with his older brother, folk legend Stan Rogers. Few realize Garnet not only played a variety of instruments onstage in those years (violin, flute, and a slew of guitars) and sang tenor harmonies, he also was the chief music arranger.

As a solo artist since 1984, Garnet’s music incorporates many influences besides folk, including blues,  rock, and classical. His guitars reflect those influences, as he tours with several Gibson acoustic guitars, a National (steel) guitar, a Fender Stratocaster, and a Yamaha Silent guitar. Audiences can also expect to hear Garnet’s trademark humourous storytelling between songs.

Among Garnet’s best-loved songs are the gentle Summer Lightning and All That Is, the heart-warming Small Victory, the evocative Under the Summer Moonlight , as well as the occasional cover that he makes his own.  Many of his live concerts close with the hard-driving, heart-pounding  “Night Drive / NorthWest Passage” , worth the price of admission in itself.

Australian Daniel Champagne, a phenomenal guitar player and singer-songwriter in his own right,  opens for Garnet with a 20 minute set.

Bring a little extra for appies, coffees, gelato,  and drinks and to take home some Garnet Rogers CDs on sale. This is one concert not to be missed.
