Thank you for contacting the Oliver Community Arts Council.
Yes, there is a “Summer Reading Program” at the Oliver Regional Library. It is compatible with similar summer reading clubs operating at libraries across the province. If your grandchildren are keeping summer reading logs at their home library, they can bring theirs along, or you can just go as a one-time user. The program runs on Thursday evenings from July 7 to August 4, 7:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m, and is for ages 5 – 12 years. There are crafts, games, a read-aloud, and weekly draws. Pre-registration is required so that they can prepare the craft supplies, but there is no cost. More information can be found at http://www.orl.bc.ca/branches/oliver
The other arts event going on that week is unfortunately on the same evening! The arts council runs Music in the Park every Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on the riverside patio behind the Oliver Visitors Centre, just up the street from the library. That week, it’s classic rock n roll with Rick Wood. The entertainment is family friendly and we often have little kids bopping around to the music. Visit our website for details (you may have to scroll down the page a bit). We are running some arts exhibits and demos right now, but unfortunately they will be concluded before your arrival.
Oliver Parks and Recreation Society runs weekly Summer Fun programs http://www.oliverrecreation.ca/program/sunfun-2011 for ages 6 – 12 and there is a Unity Skateboard day camp that week http://www.oliverrecreation.ca/program/kids-summer-camps-2011 for ages 6 – 11. The Parks and Rec has other activities for children and adults such as the outdoor pool and gym exercises, all with more info at their website.
