Find your thrill on October 7th

Medici’s is both proud and honoured to promote and recommend you get yourself to The Venables for a rare treat. Friday October 7th, the Frank Venables Auditorium will host Thrill on Blueberry Hill, a Fats Domino Tribute, A magical night when true legends of music will take our wonderful theatre into a stratosphere of entertainment like none other.

Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne and his band take us back to a time when piano players like Fats Domino worked the “strolls” in dozens of American Cities. This talented, internationally recognized Juno-award-winning “Boogie-woogie Piano Man” has a flamboyant stage presence, and his noteworthy 7 piece band – including Russell Jackson, who played 6 years with the legendary BB King, and saxophone player Craig Thomson, 2013 Okanagan Musician of the Year – are sure to wow with this incredible Fats Domino Tribute.

Local duo, Mountainview Drive, will open the night performing classic harmonies from the 1940s to the 1960’s. They’ll take you back to the good old days when lyrics told stories, and harmony soothed souls.

Concert is Friday Oct 7th, 2016 at 7:30 pm at Frank Venables Theatre. This is during Wine Festival, so get your tickets early.

Proceeds of the concert will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society, to help fund MS research and services to help people living with MS.

Double Header at Medici’s

On Saturday, September 17th Medici’s presents a fantastic Doubleheader Fall Classic. Two great bands will take our stage and entertain you like none other.

First up will be Mountainview Drive, a local band that has been getting a ton of attention, notoriety and well-earned celebrity here in the valley.

Corrie and Stephane are Mountain View Drive, and they harmonize the great oldies, giving a funky spin to hits from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. They’ll take you back to the good old days when lyrics told stories, and harmony soothed souls. Sinatra, The Everly Brothers, The Carpenters, Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and on and on. These two are as smooth as silk and polished to a gleam.

After the break, a great duo, Chicken-Like Birds, who debuted their stuff at Medici’s in the summer of 2015, will step up with some sweet creative and oh-so-funky sounds.

Chicken-Like Birds, sloppy blues guitar specialist Ari Lantela and Jasmin Frederickson on the double bass sing country blues and ragtime songs about adventure, independent women, cornbread and their own strange relationship. Slap in some on-stage antics, funny stories and some endearing awkwardness and you’ve got Chicken-Like Birds!

Tickets are $20 in advance and seating is assigned. Doors will open at 6:30 and Mountainview Drive will open at 7:30.
Medici’s is at 522 Fairview Road in Oliver, 250-498-2228

A Great Partnership in the Park

Oliver Parks and Recreation partnered with the Oliver Community Arts Council to put on Music in the Park again this year, and it was a great success. OCAC wants to thank Oliver Parks and Rec for a great venue and their continued support!

Oliver Parks and Rec wrote:
Oliver Parks and Recreation would like to thank the Oliver Community Arts Council for the 8 great Thursdays of music that they put on for everyone’s enjoyment this summer. We would also like to thank everyone who came down to support the many talented musicians and singers that performed, the vendors who came out to the sell their wares at the market, and Monsterjump for the bouncy castle and the face painting.

The Music in the Park nights put on the Oliver Community Arts Council wrapped up on Thursday, August 25th with a great turn out to watch the Naden Band from CFB Esquimalt.

We would also like to remind everyone that although the Oliver Community Arts Council Music in the Park is over for another season, there are 2 more Thursdays to come out and enjoy some music.

Thursday September 1st we had the Screendoors from Penticton on stage at 6:30pm: “Look through the ripped screen door to find a musical collaboration that brings new sparks of well-tended fires. We are a front porch candle light party equipped with lyrics like warm blankets and melodies like the glint from wild mid-summer bonfires. Maiya Robbie and Tavis Weir front the folk, rock, bluegrass hybrid alongside talented musicians Stefan Bienz, Dave Mai, and Darren Filipenko.”

Thursday September 8th we will have a couple of different acts on our stage. One will be Oliver Parks and Recreation’s own Carol Sheridan and the other will be The Mysterious Sonic Booms. Our food vendor for this night is still to be confirmed.
On both nights Monsterjump will be here with a bouncy castle and we will have market vendors onsite.

See you on September 8, and again next summer!
